YELLOW CARDS FOR CREATIVITY: ZACK'S RESPONSE
Share
When I saw Depay's post about the Brazilian Football Confederation's decision to issue yellow cards for standing on the ball, I wasn't surprised. I was disappointed.
THE MOMENT
During the last finale of the Paulista Cup, Memphis balanced on the ball for a few seconds – a display of skill that showcased the joy of football.
Now they want to punish it with a yellow card. 🤯
WHY THIS MATTERS TO JOGA
When Ethan and I founded JOGA, our mission was clear: bring football back to its roots.
Our mini shin pads were born from this exact philosophy – free players from bulky gear that limits expression.
This new rule is the opposite of everything we stand for.
THE PATTERN
This isn't just about standing on a ball. It's a pattern:
- Kerlon's seal dribble: effectively banned
- Neymar's rainbow flicks: criticised as "disrespectful"
- Street football moves: pushed out of the professional game
Each time we lose these creative expressions, football becomes less beautiful.
BRAZIL VS JOGA BONITO?
The spiritual home of expressive football is now where standing on a ball gets you punished.
As Memphis said: "The joy and passion in expressing ourselves on the field shouldn't be limited."
He's right. The game's gone when we punish what made us fall in love with it.
OUR STAND
At JOGA, we're committed to keeping creative football alive. Our products are for players who believe HOW you play matters as much as winning.
We stand with Memphis and creative footballers everywhere.
Football without flair, isn't football at all.
